Children returning to school, are you ready?
Good morning coffee lovers,
The mornings are asking for more coffee, school is back in session and summer fun is ending. You are drinking coffee at 7 am instead of 10am.
My children have yet to start but they are starting soon as well as many others. I know we all are worried about what is in store for us with COVID back with a vengeance. We all worry about whether our children will be safe. Therefore I am having this conversation this week to try to keep myself and other parents aware of what to expect and how we can keep our children as safe as possible.
I know for a fact some parents are vaccinating or considering vaccinating their teens. New York City has already started mandating adults. I for one am very hesitant to give my son the vaccine but he doesn’t mind talking about it. He is 17 years old so I try to include him as much as possible in choices we make that will affect him. As much as I hate the fact that he’s growing up, he is almost an adult.
I read that some schools will be having students tested before they come to school within the first 7 days. Which to me is a great idea but sometimes these tests are not always right and so some schools have been putting in place ways to keeps everyone safe. If you have COVID symptoms but test negative, you still must work remotely for at least 10 days. Especially since the test may not pick up on the virus until after a couple days after symptoms appear or possible exposure. A lot of this information you can find on the CDC and WHO websites. We should all check these sites out periodically to stay updated with what to expect and any new guidelines.
As a parent my advice to you is to get your children prepared now. Have them keep sanitizer on their backpack so while they are in school, they can use it if they are not in a setting where they can wash with soap and water because of course soap and water is our best protection against all germs. Many schools are going to mandate the mask but if they do not and you think your child should have one, get the disposal one. This way they can change mask daily and not continue to wear the same mask with germs from daily use. Educate your children on how fast germs can spread. I get the excitement of seeing our friends after a long summer vacation, but we must still be mindful of keeping certain distances. Sharing drinks, foods, hugging, touching other people’s personal items and even touching doorknobs are all ways germs are spread amongst children.
I know it seems a bit much and it won’t be simple but when we educate them, we give them information that will stick with them. Although it might go in through one ear and come out the other, there’s always that little piece of advice that sticks with them always. Now I’m not saying scare your kids or create germaphobes but talk with them so that you can clear up any concerns they might have. Keeping our children safe is always going to be our #1 priority. Get in the Habit of doing little things to keep your children safe and they will eventually follow suit.
I hope this helps a bit and your kids go through this year in great health. We all need to know we cna survive this!
Until out next conversation talk to you lattee!
