Why do we Body-Shame?
Hello Coffee Lovers,
Now while thinking about having this conversation I am here drinking Caramel Macchiato.
That's my sweet stuff or the day. I am talking about this because it's summertime and many people worry about their body and how they get portrayed in other eyes.
This conversation many people don't have because they are worried about if they are feeling like they are being body shamed or they are doing it. It's a hard thing for people who deal with body shaming. We don't know what this person may or not be going through.
I myself have issues with my body but my issues are mentally. Meaning i am not slim so i feel not as beautiful as others do. Maybe ist because from the time I was born skinny was the thing to be. Despite years later it can still take hold of me. I do take time to say I am beautiful enough for me.
Now, other people may have issues that we don't know about like if they are skinny and not on purpose we may be missing a story or two. We can’t just put on bigger people because smaller people have issues. Whether it's about weight or height or even missing something we must learn to respect other people's feelings by shaming them. Not everyone is perfect and the world is not perfect either. That's why we must learn as my parents used to say “ If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
For those who do not know what it means:
Body-shaming may result in devastating consequences, including but not limited to, self-harming tendencies, unhealthy behavior, stress, depression, and full-fledged disorders like eating disorders. Individuals with a history of depression, trauma, or borderline personality disorder may face more serious consequences.
Here are some things to realized if you are body shaming someone:
*Realizing their body is not about you:
So Many people make fun of others forgetting it's not about them even if they feel like it is mentioned it will make it about them but it is still about the perons having to deal with what others see when they walk around.
*Everyone needs someone to defend them:
A Lot of people watch other people body shaming and not do anything or become a part of the bullies body shaming someone. They have to think about it like if it was them being body shamed how would they feel and then maybe try to get them to stop even if it's changing the subject or just saying it's not cool to do.
*They all have a story:
Some people do things to their body because they don’t feel like being who they are is beautiful enough. And I blame the people who do the body shaming . These people are human like us,sure we are not perfect but no one is. Some are born way they can’t control so instead of judging them or shaming them get to know them or keep it moving.
Life is hard as it is and our bodies should not be our stories,our minds and hearts should. Take the time to realize people get hurt by the words someone says even if it's small to you it may be a big issue to you but it will to them. So I hope you take this conversation not lightly and maybe watch your words a bit because we are all human and that is all that should count.
