Do you feel safe riding the trains in NYC ?
Hello coffee Lovers,
I have been reading up and realizing some things we should lall discuss even if we don’t live in NYC but we might have friends or relatives over there.
According to https://www.governor.ny.gov/ Mayor Adams Announce Major Actions to Keep Subways Safe and Address Transit Crime, Building on Ongoing State and City Collaboration.
Now how many times have we heard from people who swore that they will keep the people safe? I feel as though it's getting worse out there. The violence is so bad that I fear for my husband. He works for the MTa and everyday he goes to work i stay up worrying about how things can go wrong.
It has been said that Mayor Adam is putting more officers in the train stations but they will be unarmed. My question is how will that help? These people who are being violent are attacking officers who have weapons. Imagine those without?
As i was speaking to my husband i realized that he and other mta staff members or those who actually ride the trains know more or less where their dangerous areas are. They should have a say so where the officers should be stationed at.
The people should be heard. A mayor will never willingly go on a train without protection and why should the people do the same.
According to https://www.npr.org/ crime rate in subways are roughly 60% of what it was in 2019. Can you imagine those numbers? Can the officers feel threatened too? These days there are cameras and recordings of things that happen, yet only a small percentage of them actually get caught. Most don’t even stay behind bars for long.
What I'm saying is, sure numbers mean a lot when it comes to crimes in NYC but the words of the people in The subways mean more. Especially those who take these trains after work hours are just trying or just trying to get to work. They know more than those who claim to say they are safe but never really spent more than 5 minutes for 1 stop to the next station.
The people who travel everyday know where the officers are needed and it's not just in the most expensive areas it's in places that the officers refuse to be around.
There has to be a way to get the people in nyc to tell their experience and what they have witnessed. They know the truth, the conductors and train operators know the truth even those who clean the platform can tell you the truth.
Let the people teach you what's good for them, don't expect to know what they want without hearing it from them. I am not talking about just first class, I'm talking about middle class and all the classes below as well. Don’t predict their future, let them survive by showing you the present.
Below is a link to some of the stories I told about what I saw in the NYC transit system. Don’t be afraid to tell yours.
